It was too early to wake up yet. The sky still cast a dark shadow over the room, and with the curtains drawn the room only appeared darker. He stared at the red digital numbers that, with every passing minute, changed to mirror the time. He yawned loudly, stretching out expecting to find a warm body splayed out under the sheets and, instead, coming across a cold and unused portion of the mattress. It was with a heavy sigh that he curled up and pulled the duvet towards him, arms wrapping around it in a mock hug that he wished was being shared with someone he knew was too far away to even call.
He stayed like that until the sun finally began to rise, lost in his thoughts of days gone by.
The night was always the loneliest.
