i loved the "kate" touches as well - especially the fortunes and the alarm clock. "there's always time for scrabble" - so cute!
i hope you do it again too. i agree about three divisions, but don't see why there shouldn't be unlimited playup (unless something happened this time that i don't know about).
Awesome tourney, and Tim is an excellent director to handle such a big crowd by himself and so efficiently.
I agree with Cecilia--I have no problem with the UPU, even if I did risk an embarassing loss to Bradley Robbins (thank goodness he lets phoneys go and tries silly phonies himself).
I'm pretty sure that there's a big correlation between the director being all jumpy-strung up and the number/absurdity of the director calls and arguments that happen.
Although between (a) $5 a round, (b) keeping the webpage updated, (c) director calls, and (d) normal tourney running I was reasonably busy I still had about 10-15 minutes of dead-time a round.
Kate, this was one of my favorite (and most smoothly run!) tournaments that I've been to so far! Imagine how I'd feel about it if I'd won more than three games. ;) Seriously, it was great to see you, even if only for a few minutes in between things, and I hope I get to come to your next one!
yay - i'm so glad you came, and that you got to win some games and watch the sox win some games, too :) we'll find more time to hang out at the next one.
i used to throw parties at the house and invite a bunch of diverse groups. i would plan an elaborate menu, but i never really got to enjoy it since playing host takes a lot of energy and still i couldn't get to have "quality" time with anyone, and a couple of people did feel slighted. sigh. one can never win. now, i enjoy large group meals because there are enough people talking so that i don't have to do it.

This is not a suggestion for more director calls.
