Alpha, meet Mu.

I haven't posted about it but I've been really enjoying the last five or so episodes, more and more I think, as the show focused less on Eliza Dushku and picked up the rest of the cast more. I also tend to get more excited about shows when there are things I am trying to figure out so I had been doing some theorizing with Kevin about how Dr. Saunders was perhaps a doll and that the original Dr. Saunders had been killed by Alpha and since Whiskey was carved up she was turned into the doctor. This led to some conversation about how any of the employees could just be turned into imprints and replaced over and over again, and how in theory none of the workers have to be the original people, which I thought was kind of neat. Someone on TWoP theorized that Alpha = Topher, either that Alpha was the designer of the chair and Topher is a doll that was running off of an imprint of Alpha, or that one of Alpha's personalities was an imprint of Topher. This I thought was also neat.

I do not understand why the finale had to be so disappointing. :( I was already starting to recommend the show to people, all, "Just get past the first five episodes!" I was being careful not to mention any cast members. :(

What bothered me the most about the finale was that more than once both Joss and Eliza said that in the finale, we would learn why Alpha spared Echo. And now it turns out that the reason is that he just thought she was pretty? THIS IS SO DISAPPOINTING. I am really bothered by the fact that everything on this show revolves around Echo but there is literally no logical reason for it. It's not like, say, Buffy, where she is the Slayer so of course she's the center of a lot of attention. No reason is given for it at ALL except that she is hot. It doesn't even make sense to me that Alpha would be infatuated with Echo instead of Whiskey. He was clearly infatuated with that particular imprint of Whiskey's and it would make more sense from a writing standpoint if Echo arrived and Alpha carved her up because she was taking the attention away from Whiskey. They even went to the trouble of mentioning that Alpha and Whiskey were trouble together. The only reason I see for it actually being Echo that he's obsessed with is that every episode of this show is about jerking Eliza Dushku off.

All this set up of Alpha was basically for nothing, too! I had this totally different mental image of him trying to take down the dollhouse and trying to deliberately cause Echo to composite or to recall herself or to get her to take the dollhouse down from the inside in some way. Why the hell did he remote wipe her? Why did he do ANY OF THE THINGS HE DID when really he just wanted her to come be his wacky girlfriend? He seemed not even the tiniest bit interested in the dollhouse when it came down to it. :( It was so much more interesting when he was a psychotic butcher who was doing a semi-heroic thing. :(

Also the fact that he is just a psycho killer is disappointing. I had imagined all these shades of grey to his motivation. Thanks a lot, show. :(

I think Eliza Dushku's acting as the dumb, stereotypical, hick, psycho girlfriend was possibly her worst acting on the show. Wtf was with the random "WOOO!" to show her psycho-ness. It was like a high school drama class monologue as selected and delivered by the girl who draws pentacles on her forearms and has a "freak" bumper sticker. That happened within the first three minutes and as soon as it did I was like, "This is going to be a let down, isn't it :|"

It makes no sense to me that having all those personalities imprinted into Alpha = psychotic break but having that many imprinted into Echo = I'm awesome! Even though apparently the root of Alpha's psychosis was his original personality, it makes no sense that Echo was perfectly capable of handling 20+ personalities. There is no reason for this except that she is Super Special. Also, why was Alpha so smooth about picking out a personality to use in last week's episode, but in this one he was skipping back and forth? For dramatic effect, I assume, but how sloppy.

douche chill
