Today I have been revising, it's neo freudian "attachment theory" how we love our mothers and anything that takes away from that will make us self loathing and afraid.
Freud once said that we only loved mum because we liked her giving us food, but Maslow disagreed. He made a rhesus monkey choose between a cloth monkey with no food and a wire monkey with food. When they were afraid they would cling to the cloth monkey and nuzzle in until they werent afraid any more. Even if they were raised only with the wire moneky substitute they would not nuzzle, they'd remain afraid and a bit perplexed.
