Is there anything more fantastic than sitting near a duck pond with all your friends, new and old? My oldest friend I've sat with in this marvelous heat I used to have sleepovers with, we'd eat chocolate when everyone was asleep and put makeup on people as they slept only to discoevr they had allergies and they'd awaken to swollen faces. She was also the friend who let me hear the music that shaped my 4th year life, and is the "in joke" friend. We played with wind up penguins, extreme slaps, talked about yaks and buffalos, spoke to random strangers, sang in bus stops. Another friend I met as we jigged outside a gig to keep warm, we were hysterical with laughter and at first I thought he didnt like us because we were laughing so hard. Another I met in KFC by chance. Another swung her briefcase and ran up to me after rehersals, we'd sit in starbucks tutting at everyone, ganging up on boys and comparing how much sugar we both took in tea, we'd have small gestures that no one else understand (air scoreboards) and we'd give each other looks. Then its to newer friends, ones I know through admiring the beads around her neck but she's like my little sister now. Also accompanying me is the boy, with his owls and enthusiasm for everything little in the world, he whispers such grand thoughts and sometimes the corners of his mouth twitch downwards when he's happy. Im getting to know all his friends too, the girls are so marvelous, one lets me stay on her floor whenever I'm out in Glasgow and all her stories are so amazing you feel like perhaps sitting watching the world go by isnt a good use of time, other friends I've known a lot longer but its only now I've started to talk to more, ukes and music talk, comissioned drawings on trainers.
