No, really, I saw the Nancy Drew movie today, and it was total love. Dude, there was slash in it! Nancy Drew catches these burglars, and they're all bickering and referencing Fire Island. Much of the funny. Also, cried at the end (they did that thing where they show happy children home-movie style; gets me every time).
They modernized the story in a way that didn't make me cringe, and did I mention that I just loved Nancy Drew herself? It was self-aware in a funny way, but not in the jaded, overly snarky manner that you see in way too many kiddie movies. I love snark and innuendo as much as the next person, but NOT IN KIDDIE MOVIES, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Jaded eight-year-olds are just sad.
Anyway, I thought it was funny and adorable and I would have watched it even without the excuse of having kids. And now I want a sleuthing kit.
Oh, and Nancy's boyfriend? Was kind of hot.
