Right? When Sam pulled this, he was a horrible, terrible person and it was all about how they were right all along and Dean deserved someone better (aka Cas) blah blah blah, and now that Cas has done the same thing (actually worse, imo, considering what he did to Sam), it's all about how horrible Dean is and how if he had just hugged Cas none of this would have happened. No. The character was interesting, and had potential that the writers kinda messed up, but this show started out being about Sam and Dean and that's always going to be the core of the show. Everything else is secondary.
I don't want the ratings to suffer, either! But honestly, this will probably be our last season, and that probably won't matter much, because even if it DOES go down in the ratings, it's still one of the only shows that CW has that's even marginally successful. I wouldn't worry too much for at least awhile. Especially since I don't believe half the people who insist they're leaving actually will, and they definitely won't if Cas survives the first ep (which I think he will).
