ahh the un-answered question of the young student... they want you to be a well-rounded individual, and spread your interests. they want to make sure that when you enter society and get a real job, you make smart, logical decisions. that is why they make you take math (+ logic) and pyschology (understand the people who surround you in society). besides if you just focused on your major it would be fun and easy. and they don't want that. you know who they are right? that was probably a rhetorical question, eh? but there you go; i never understood rhetoric.
