All,
Just an update:
The EC is VERY close to wrapping this issue up. We wanted to have all group-sized tasks done by the end of last week (voting, debates, etc.), but as you can imagine, things happen. A great part of the delay is due to the fact that we are largely a volunteer organization, and no matter how important we may feel this issue is, some of us have to go to work or feed the kids or study for an exam or move our house across the country.
A portion of this, however, is due to the fact that we've not dealt with stuff like this in as official a capacity as we are now. Sure, stuff like this (and worse) has happened at an NPS before, but we've not always attempted to tackle the issue with the fervor the current EC is attempting to. As an organization, every year we learn how to do something new, and then the next year we learn how to do it the right way after someone's inadvertently (for the most part) bumped into the loopholes of a process. I feel very comfortable saying that we have FAR more of those organization-bending lessons behind us than we do in front of us.
We've spent a lot of time over the years hoping bad thigs wouldn't happen so we wouldn't have to come up with these types of rules, with a heaping serving of faith in people to do the right things to steer us along, and yes, even when those people are poets. We've learned in just the last few years that if we can't foresee the need for certain courses of action ahead of time, we at least need to be jumping on some of this stuff with both feet Captain Kirk style when it does occur.
So bear with us just a little bit longer. I want to say we'll be done and ready to report to the membership in a week from today. I won't. But I want to. But...I won't.
Anyone needing the resolution of this to complete their lives this week, please go to your nearest television, turn on the news and watch something more important until then. Lord knows there's bigger things in the world.
See you soon, promise,
Scott Woods
