Every year I make a to-do list of projects that I want to do. My hit-to-miss ratio in recent years has declined for a variety of reasons, some of which I addressed, some I still haven't, and some were just my little demons taking the wheel. Looking over my list for 2012 I've noticed some nice changes from old lists. It's a more mature list, with more substantial goals, which makes sense. I've earnestly been doing poetry for 20 years now, and the goals that tend to show up these days are in line with that experience. So it's a slightly shorter list with a slightly higher learning/workload curve, but when I knock something off of the list, it's usually a biggie, or at least really cool.
I almost posted my 2013 list here today, but I'm trying to cultivate a stronger work ethic. Part of that involves actually doing the work and not going for the easy back patting that comes with having a good idea. I have been able to coast a great distance on a lot of "likes." I spent a great deal of 2012 learning how to NOT do things, or at least learn to do more things for myself. I want 2013 to be about improving my work ethic, about finding a better balance between what I can do and what I actually do. I come up with great ideas all of the time. Looking at my list from last year, I act on those ideas about 45% of the time. I'd like to get my batting average a little higher than that.
Thar's gold in them thar hills.
