There are people who talk about being poets and wanting to be involved with poetry - wanting to make something out of their poetry, wanting their poetry to take them places, or to transport others - who don't participate in the really simple, right-now kind of stuff. Then, when opportunities come along and they aren't offered or asked or they don't see a way into the opportunity, they complain or fume or mope or shut down or stop doing poetry...like opportunity was supposed to FIND them. Opportunity is too busy dealing with people who have shown that they are, if not ready, at least willing to see what opportunity has to say. It ain't got time to wait for you to come up with something better or to warm-up or to get your act together. Opportunity says, "Give me what you got. I'll let you know if I was meant for you." But that conversation never - EVER - happens to someone who sits back and watches poetry happen around them.
