All,
I’ve had a really busy year to date…so busy that I haven’t been updating this list properly!
Let’s rectify that right now, yes? Because I don’t want you thinking your favorite poet (that’s me) hasn’t been doing what he does (that’s taking over the world). Here’s what I’ve been up to since this time last year:
1) I performed my last 24-Hour solo reading.
Seven years is a great run. Heck, one year is a great run. But SEVEN? Seven is a veritable journey. Over that period of time I have read about 2526 poems, 164 of which were mine. WHAT?!
You can see the setlists from all seven years here:
http://scottwoods.livejournal.com/349110.html 2) I performed with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra…twice!
Doing children’s poetry, no less! It was an awesome honor and you can read a journal entry about it here:
http://scottwoods.livejournal.com/399566.html 3) I released a couple of books of poetry!
“The Livingston Avenue Suite” is a chapbook-length poem about one of the most storied places in my beloved hometown. It is one of my favorite books of the ones I’ve written, and you can buy it here:
http://www.rewritingovid.net/I also released a chapbook entitled “Autumn” online which you can download for free centered on the theme of…what else? Autumn!
http://tinyurl.com/7pzhson 4) I was interviewed on National Public Radio’s “On Point” show.
I’ve had work featured nationally before, but was never a guest on a show. Check that off the list! You can hear it here:

…one of which was quoted in a New York Times review! Check it out here:
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/14/books/zombie-poetry-takes-on-a-life-of-its-own.html?_r=1 6) I write on a variety of subjects on even MORE blogs and websites.
- My “monthly” column about poetry, “Poetry is Doomed” is still going strong:

http://blacktalkwhitefood.wordpress.com/ 7) I co-hosted a truly awesome and immersing poetry experience, Sheddin’: A Poetry Blues Experience.
Food, music, and poetry should always end up being good times. With the help of one of my best friends and one heck of an organizer, Louise Robertson, I designed and built set pieces for a show that was one of the best we’ve ever done. Our expectations were smashed. This was a real game changer for me. Aided by a whole crew of folks and the inimitable Sidney Jones Jr. on the grill, it was a once-in-a-lifetime good time!
8) I stepped away from serving on the Executive Council of Poetry Slam, Inc.
This means I stopped being president of the largest poetry slam non-profit in the world. I worked for PSi for about a decade, and I’m proud of the work we accomplished. I’m still competing as a poet and organizing slams, but it’s time to focus more on the kind of stuff that makes lists like this possible. I’ve obviously done a lot even while being president, but just think of what I’ll be able to do when I’m NOT!
So yeah, I’ve been keeping busy, and this is a pretty solid snapshot of your boy in action since this time last year. Be on the lookout for even more engaging developments and, with no small measure of sweat and tears, my first full-length collection of poetry, courtesy of Arizona’s publishing conglomerate, Brice Cave Media!
Whew!
Yours in words,
Scott
