NPS 2010 - Coming Home

Aug 10, 2010 23:09

The ride home was going to be a chore any way we cut it. We were leaving at 5 AM from the hotel, looking down the barrel of at least 13 hours to get home. I knew the rest of my team was going to basically stay up all night and be knocked out in the car, so I got to play a lot more of my iTunes than I did on the way up. Rachel basically slept for 13 hours straight. It was scary.

There was one point of interest though:

That's right: I took an hour and a half detour to take the kids to the Mars Cheese Castle.

I'd been there before on a trip to Milwaukee as I recall, and I was stunned by it. I vowed to return. Mission accomplished!
I bought a lot of cheese (an aged gouda, a buffalo marbled cheddar and some others), a couple of bottles of Reisling...

...and this:

That's a bottle of really potent hot sauce called "Ass Reaper".  It's tagline is: "That's your ass now".
It comes with a skull and hoodie, yo.  In the basket.

The drive was pretty uneventful otherwise.  We stopped in Osseo again for breakfast at Moe's Diner and the rest was mostly road music.  Occasionally Ethan would wake up and we'd talk poetry for about twenty minutes before he'd fall asleep again.  By the time I got them home, returned the jeep, paid for it, gassed it and got home, I fell asleep on the couch with a remote in my hand.

See you next year, poets.
