Check out the intended motion I just posted in the PSi members forum for discussion between now and next March.
Yes, I'm serious, and that's acknowledging that there was at least one change already made at the SlamMasters meeting a couple of weeks ago that I disagree with a lot (repeal of the no-repeat rule at Finals).
==============================================
My motion for the next SM meeting:
Changes (beyond language) to any of the following from the 2009 NPS version:
a) team size
b) bout rotations
c) poem repeatability
d) team piece rules
e) individual rankings vs. group piece only rankings
...must stay in effect for no less than 2 years, and may not be entered onto an agenda before their respective deadlines.
Basis:
There may be a perfect-enough balance to what makes a fine show and game for all, but we will never uncover it if elements to the big picture change every six months. Let us stabillize the event for a little while and THEN let's look at these admittedly minor elements to the larger purpose: a good show and a good time for the larger community and largely uninitiated audience.
Point of info #1:
This means no changes may be submitted to these elements prior to August 2011. Changes may be recommended starting in spring of 2012.
Point of info #2:
Discussion may, of course, take place, but not in these meetings for two years. Again, the motion forbids these things coming to the SM meeting agenda even for discussion, unless it is to clarify language in the rulebook. Plenty of the same discussion can take place in these forums, like it does now, and should anyway. We do these issues a grave disservice by attempting to discussing them in meetings for 10-20 minutes when we could be discussing them here for months and building consensus or compromise.
Point of information #3:
I tip my hat to the gentleman from Ann Arbor, Steve Marsh, who flippantly suggested the essence of this motion, but that I actually thought was a good idea.
