breath set prep

Jun 14, 2009 01:56

I spent the night putting together a close-to-real setlist for a live breath show.  That was tough.  I spent much of the time in front of a keyboard and iTunes and going through songs that I've done, trying to see if they could be recreated live.  Then I picked a few covers that I like that seemed to fit and that I thought I could pull off too.  I've cut about ten or so songs out of this list to get to this point.  Considering I don't know when I'll do this show, I suspect it will change again.  Also, I've determined I'm going to need to build a quintet, not a quartet.  REALLY tried to get out of that, but I need guitar.

In no order.  All songs are breath unless otherwise noted (not that I'll make much fuss about it live.  I wrote all the songs so it's a breath show).
* = covers.

Speaking in Tongues
Let Me See Your Eyes
After-Dinner Mint
Bay Window Sutra
Beaded Threshold - (Donielle Monique)
You Should Want Me Now - (Sayso Madrid)
Peachberry Ponytail Kissing Coma - (Tiki Cocoa)
Trust - (Me'shell NdegeOcello)*
Love Is Stronger Than Pride - (Sade)*
No Batida Do Agogo - (Grupo Batuqua)*
The Boogie Man Song - (Mos Def)*
Cloak - (Spymusic)*

That's over an hour-long set, but not by a LOT.
If you know my music - and these songs particularly - then you know the covers will be SWEET in the mix.
We're talking: drums, guitar, bass and 2 keys, one of which is me with a rig of samples and noise.

A good productive night.  Had to knock the dust off, and it felt GOOOooooood.
The headache couldn't stop me.

I need sleep now.  2 AM and I don't get along.  Also, I've got to spend Sunday getting ready for our second team meeting.  I'm the coach, did I mention that?  Good team, with lots of energy.  We'll see how they get down when the boot camp opens doors.
