Review: GV7

Jul 20, 2008 18:08

Because I suspect my latest review of a poetry documentary may not make it to the site that commissioned me for it, here is my review of Bob Bryan's "Graffiti Verite 7: Random Urban Static: The Iridescent Equations of Spoken Word".

It was not kind, but they've gotten a review from me before and it was somewhat tough, so I have faith.
To that end, I ( Read more... )

You could have been a LOT meaner (and we have seen that, son!). I wonder how many people who performed for this thing were happy that they'd gotten some soundtrack laid over their work.

There are some *bad* poets who you can tell are listening to a hip-hop beat in their head while they're badly rhyming their piece. Sounds like that's what the filmmaker is trying to superimpose on everyone he captured. Yikes.

This review makes me want to see the movie even less than I did after reading Scott's review. Sounds dull.

Also, I only recall Sekou winning in 2002.

You're making your point by being a jackass in someone's LJ. Everyone knows people have different opinions about things. Your spamming his review makes me think you're the sort of person whose opinion I shouldn't bother to respect.

This is Amazing to me insafemode. I'm honestly new to this, so it's kinda sad to encounter this level of attack just because I don't agree with the attack on this film that yall were talking about. This is definitely not fun for me to be called a jackass, spammer and "the sort of person whose opinion I shouldn't bother to respect."

It's clear that you are a SW Slam Poet and you have heaps of personal issues, so I'm gonna back outta the door and leave you to your misery. I leave with my privacy and self-respect intact. Seek help dude seriously you need it. Cya...

Again, no defense. You took it upon yourself to find a review of something you're clearly attached to, a review that hasn't yet been posted anywhere but in a person's personal online journal, and spam the comments with reviews of opposing opinions.

And, yes, it's spamming. You didn't do one entry with a link to a bunch of reviews, you replied to a bunch of the original comments with cut and pasted reviews.

I'm not going to comment on your psychological state since, like you, I have no credentials at it. I'm glad you have your privacy and self-respect, though. Clutch them like a teddy bear tonight while you dream of a place where everyone shares your opinions, and likes everything you do.

Meaner? I don't get it.. what's the point in being meaner or nastier or vile? Sounds ignorant to me. At least Scott was articulate about why he didn't like the documentary. Anyone and Everybody is entitled to his or her opinion. "Freedom of Expression and all that! I would however suggest that scott produce his own spoken word film because by the look of the other posts here he is certainly outgunned in the review department.

The difference between Scott's review, and the reviews you have quoted:

Scott Woods makes a living as a poet. He's spent the last eight years deeply involved in the spoken word/slam movement. I'm guessing he knows the material much better than these people, whose reviews you've google searched, or written yourself, or however it is you found these.

Some people aren't going to like The Dark Knight. Most of those people are probably people who don't like comic book movies, or fun. I can't say that their opinions are wrong (because opinions are never wrong), but I can say that they seem invalid to me. In the same way the opinions of people who don't know spoken word on a "documentary" about spoken word aren't valid to me. great, they liked the movie. I really enjoyed Hellboy It's a terrible movie, but I enjoyed it anyway ( ... )
