The day dawns red as
the blood that will spill before
the night is over.

Yes, tonight is New Year, Nuku, and the poets are already hurling incendiary poetic missives at one another in anticipation.

Wow.

Tonight also marks the release of our first collaborative chapbook. Haiku Nuku: 561 Syllables from the First Draft Open Mic will be available at the bargain price of just five dollars. It includes work from the death match participants, former FD features, and other members of the WB staff. I am really proud of how this project turned out. I really love the range of voices, and the way that poets with lengthy publication credits appear right along side poets who are seeing themselves in print for the first time. It's a really cool literary example of one of the best things about Writer's Block: the way so many unique voices are able to grow and develop as part of a larger community. And the money we raise from chapbook sales will go right back into that community by providing funds for upcoming features and publicity.

After the Death Match has finished, we will be having our monthly open mic. Poets are welcome to read haiku or non-haiku during the open mic portion of the evening. I can't wait to see what people bring out!

The fun starts tonight at 8pm at Kafe Kerouac, $3 cover.

See you there!
