Open Letter to the Columbus Thunderpants 2007

May 10, 2007 07:21

Thunderpants,

And so ends another season of the Midwest Poetry Slam League!

I want to take a moment to thank all of you for your participation this year big or small, and for the work that many of you put into using the opportunity that the MPSL provides as a growing experience.  We saw some great strides in the work and performance of a number of our poets, and that makes me VERY proud.  When the team and the road trips and the slams are doing that, then they're doing their jobs.  You shouldn't work for Slam; Slam should work for you.*

We didn't make it to Finals but that's okay; we've not made it to Finals before.  I encourage all of you to make an attempt to attend Finals at the Green Mill anyway and see not only the show, but the historic spot where Slam as we know it was born.  It truly has a poetry-changing vibe.

Here's to you and the tradition of being a Thunderpants and to poetry.

Yours, as always,
Scott Woods
Coach, Owner, and pitcher

* Poetically speaking, of course.  If you're dumb enough to run for president of the damn thing, then you DO work for Slam.
