I've been working with various poets over the past few weeks in varying capacities and this little bit of advice I felt like sharing.
======================================================
2) Consider new titles as soon as possible. Here's why:
Titles aren't just things to keep your poems from bleeding together from page to page. They help frame the poem, and when you frame the poem early on, you can use the title to potentially help you figure out where the poem itself should be going. "The Whirlwinds" does this. But a poem called "At Least You Got Me Back" does not.
Throw a title on the problem poems - even a weird, out-of-left-field title - and see if the title helps you figure out some stronger symbolism. Try calling one of your heartbreak or depression poems "Sandwiches" and see what comes up.
