Nationally known Poet Scott Woods to perform a 24-hour feature

April 1-2, veteran performance poet and president of Poetry Slam Incorporated (PSI) Scott Woods takes to the stage to complete a 24-hour poetry presentation at ACME Art Company (1230 E Courtland Ave, Cols., OH). The show is scheduled to begin at 11:00 pm, Sat., April 1. For the next 24 hours, Woods plans to read poetry from his own extensive writings and publications as well as the poetry of other accomplished writers.

“To my knowledge, no one's ever done it before and I wanted a good way to raise money to fund literacy programs and raise awareness of poetry in Columbus,” said Woods. “It should be a good time, especially about 8 hours in.”

Scott Woods' full length book is in the development stage at Pudding House Publications. Pudding House editor, Jennifer Bosveld, calls Scott's poetry "an amazing mix of street and intellect. His poems are tight, right-paced, and insightful to any listener."

Sponsors include Poetry Slam Inc., the Association of Public Library Employees (APLE), Pudding House Publications, Writers’ Block Poetry, Music in Motion Films, and the Central Vineyard of Columbus as well as individuals donating prior to and during the poetry reading. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Columbus Literacy Council and the Columbus National Poetry Slam Team.

Woods is co-founder and MC for Writers’ Block Poetry, which hosts open mic poetry and poetry slams. Through May 2006, you can attend a Writers’ Block Poetry Night at the Columbus Music Hall (734 Oak St., Cols., OH) on 1st and 3rd Thursdays. Beginning in June, Writers’ Block Poetry Night takes place on 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at the Columbus Music Hall.

The author and editor of over nine volumes of poetry and prose, Woods has performed in a number of venues and with an assortment of accompaniments. His work has been used in creative writing and historical literature classes at numerous universities and high schools, and has been featured multiple times on National Public Radio.
