Here's the thing about writing

For me, at least, it's all about momentum. If I'm writing at least a little bit over a given stretch of time, I'll keep writing. If I'm not, well then, I'm not.

Currently, I'm not. And it's driving me absolutely bonkers.

Equally frustrating is that the fact that it comes on the heels of, for the most part, about three years of writing at a fairly steady clip. I've been working on a nice, (too) long work of original fiction that is basically done. I was rather shocked when that day came. I have trouble finishing fanfics, let alone book-length stories. But being too long and written by me, it needs some editing. So I set about doing that.

That's about when the writing stopped. I can see I'm getting too bogged down editing a story I almost know by heart at this point so I'm forcing myself to set it aside for now.

But being a fanfic writer too, I have a logical fallback to get into the writing mood again. Unfinished fanfics! Which is what I'm working on now. We'll try to get that momentum up again. Then we'll edit the bohemoth while continuing to write. Then when I'm ready to get to writing original fiction again, hopefully a won't run into that writer's block wall again.

So here's my unsolicited word of advise that I heard someplace else: Always park you're story downhill. Don't stop writing at the end of a chapter where you might have difficulty picking it up again. Stop in the middle of thought. Then when you sit back down, you'll be able to pick up right where you left off.
