Well, the Mark Foley doings are generating heat and noise.
"The improper communications between Congressman Mark Foley and former House congressional pages is unacceptable and abhorrent. It is an obscene breach of trust, his immediate resignation must now be followed by the full weight of the criminal justice system." read the statement issued by Majority Leader John Boehner of Ohio, House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert of Illinois, and Majority Whip Roy Blunt of Missouri.

Wonder exactly how that investigation will be done, seeing as there are reports that Hastert and Boehner knew about at least a part of this story 5 to 10 months ago, Rep. Rodney Alexander learned of it a year ago. True, they may not have known of the sleazy IM exchanges, but perhaps a little investigation then might have turned them up.

It does seem that more of the Republican indignation and disgust comes from the gay aspect rather than a much old person in a position of power hitting on someone in their teens.

``As somebody who has met Mark Foley personally and has mutual friends, I am sad for Mark and I hope he doesn't go to jail. The last time I saw Mark, he was 19 years into a relationship. That was sad that it had to be hidden. I hope the Republican Party continues to evolve so it's not so difficult to be an openly gay Republican. Will this play into the fears that all gay people are pedophiles? I hope not. There are heterosexual situations as well. Everybody decries this kind of situation. Even Mark Foley did, but he couldn't control it.''
