I really enjoyed the episode of Scrubs titled "My Musical." It aired on January 18th, and it was a Broadway-musical themed episode.
I enjoyed it so much, in fact, that I started breaking it down on Finale to use it in a performance this summer with some teens. It's crazy, because it's not a mainstream musical. I'm tired of performing/directing/listening to stuff like Joseph and Godspell and Les Miserables. Great musicals all, but I want to do something different.
It's fortunate that I'm not really "employed" right now; I can dedicate a great deal of time to doing things like listening to songs over and over again on Itunes to try and come up with the orchestration by ear.
I'm crazy. I'm crazy to think that kids are going to want a musical they've never seen before (and that has never been on stage before). I'm crazy to think that I can lift this music off of the internet and into a finale score, or worse, a piano reduction. I'm crazy to think that NBC won't be jumping on my ass, even though this is a minor production to be held in a presbyterian church. Crazy. Crazy. Crazy.
hope all is well with you
