Surviving the Snow

Feb 07, 2010 21:47

Well, the good news is, that I have survived Snowmaggedon.  Our power has never been out, nor heat nor cable. I have been stuck (mostly inside) with 2 boys.  Thankfully, we could alternate turns between the TV and computer for entertainment.   Ironically, I went to the store early, but didn't buy extra milk.  Fortunately, we still have some left.  We did have a small fight over the last vanilla yogurt (JJ decided he likes those too) and the fact that we ran out of treats earlier tonight.

Saturday, I spent 2 hours with Kyle's help to shovel the walk and the area around my car to get ready for the snowplow.  When the snow started, JJ went and decided to shovel first - without being asked (how cute and sweet is that?!).  Sunday, I spent 2 hours digging a bigger area out, to get ready for the plow that didn't come.  Because our HOA's contractor's plow broke at 7:30 this morning.  And the HOA told a neighbor they've already blown the budget - and were working to find a "cheaper" source.  On the weekend of the biggest snow storm in years.

So an enterprising neighbor, who has a hook into the local VFD got our station boys to come out to plow for a "donation."  Which I gladly provided, and lent my 2 shovels to.  The HOA never showed.  The VFD did, plowed us out.  And my 2, yes BOTH, shovels are now MIA.  Just in time for the next storm on Tuesday....

And the ultimate procrastination joke of all...last summer I finally ordered a replacement drawer for my kitchen.  I even brought the broken drawer into Home Despot, so that this clueless homeowner could get an "expert" to measure and orderr a proper replacement.  So after bribing Ky to help me put it together, we did.  And when we went to put it into the cabinet frame, it er, DIDN'T FIT.  Sigh.  Being the prepared [read: paranoid] homeowner, I still have my old drawer to take back with the new one, and confront HD with.    Maybe they'll trade for a new snow shovel. At least OPM gave us the day off tomorrow.

Spring has just got to be luckier than summer, fall, and winter have been thus far.

Update, 10 Feb:  Last night my neighbor's husband turned up with my other shovel.  Just in time to get trapped in the house by this new snow.  It has blown up so hard that my front door is getting covered!  But at least I have equipment to dig out...Stay warm friends!  Wish we could be having an 80s dance party or something fun!

snowmaggedon, luck, snow
