i remember when i first heard the new green day cd. my brother matt bought it and we were listening to it in his car. i thought it sucked. but i decided i should give it a chance because i heard it was a 'punk rock opera' and therefore it might take an extra listen or two to catch everything they were throwing out there. after a few more listens, i DID fully realize the cd. it really did suck. i guess the term 'punk rock opera' means they wrote a lot of short songs in the same key, and then mashed them all together into one song with about as much cohesion and style as a.....dumptruck. i support that they're against bush, but that's about it. musically, it is about half as groundbreaking as a broken, plastic jackhammer.
at the completely opposite end of the spectrum is at the drive-in. punk became post-punk after they broke up.
