Call the damn travel

Last night's discussion of basketball notwithstanding, I decided to watch the end of tonight's Bulls-Celtics game. More overtime, very tense. Still, the end result was simply a reminder of why watching basketball sucks. I dunno. Yeah, travelling rules are necessary, but I'd hate to see the flow of the game broken up, time and again, because some guy didn't plant his feet properly. Professional basketball is more for entertainment value and showmanship, IMHO, than say college ball. Far as I'm concerned, if they're not tucking it under their arm and sprinting down the court, I'm fine with it. Okay, I'm exaggerating, but I'm willing to accept a few peccadillos here and there if it keeps things moving and interesting.

Of course, this is coming from someone who only watches basketball under duress, so YMMV. I'm not exactly a purist about the sport.

If they called according to the rules, then they wouldn't do it so much. Performance of traveling is not inelastic. And it really is one of the fundamental rules of the game; otherwise it's just rugby on a really tiny field.

But, as everyone knows, traveling in the NBA, de facto, is taking more than three steps without dribbling, so at least they're consistent.
