Help a SCG take on Lupus.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can affect various parts of the body, including the skin, joints, heart, lungs, blood, kidneys and brain. Normally the body's immune system makes proteins called antibodies, to protect the body against viruses, bacteria, and other foreign materials. These foreign materials are called antigens.

In an autoimmune disorder like lupus, the immune system cannot tell the difference between foreign substances and its own cells and tissues. The immune system then makes antibodies directed against itself. These antibodies -- called "auto-antibodies" (auto means 'self') -- cause inflammation, pain and damage in various parts of the body.- www.lupus.org

I was just recently diagnosed with Lupus, It was only through my own awareness of the disease that I was able to receive a relatively quick diagnosis and effective treatment.

However, there are plenty of people who are still undiagnosed because there is no one test to get a diagnosis. There are also a lot of people who are diagnosed for whom no known treatment is successful.

You can make a difference by walking or running with us for the 17th Annual Lupus Loop to raise awareness, and by raising money for research through sponsorship. Please join us on October 26th and help us make a difference, because someone you know has Lupus.
