I have never been to the Isle of Wight. I often thought about it though.
I feel you about your mum. My dad died in a care facility far from me but the nurses there stayed with him until the end. At least you were able to be there for her!

The Isle of Wight is lovely. It is like a little England - coast, forest, hills - plenty of history and nature. I would definitely recommend it. I was lucky enough to live there for 3 years in the 80s and one of my best friends is there so I normally try to get over a couple of times a year.

Is it easy to get around without a car? I can't see me renting a car and then taking the ferry over there.

There is a bus service but in all honesty I think a car would be needed. Probably best to get to the Island and then hire a car - or let me know when you're coming and this time I will get to meet you and can take you a few places! There are many lovely walks, as well (am I doing a good job for the local tourism office???).

I'd probably just rent a car. I did that when I went to Jersey and it worked out well. Thanks!

Probably the best way - then you can decide what you want to do / see rather than be dependent on anyone else. Hopefully we can finally meet up, though! At least now I don't have work getting in the way.
