Synopsis
A soldier wounded in the Civil War, Inman turns his back on the carnage of the battlefield and begins the treacherous journey home to Cold Mountain, and to Ada, the woman he loved before the war began. As Inman attempts to make his way across the mountains, through the devastated landscape of a soon-to-be-defeated South, Ada struggles to make a living from the land her once-wealthy father left when he died. Neither knows if the other is still alive.

I really enjoyed this, the story is told mainly from the 2 points of view of Inman & Ada. Inman as he journeys, a deserter from the Confederate army, back to Ada & Cold Mountain, the people he meets & trials he undergoes. From Ada we learn of her father's death, her previous priveleged life in Charleston & the life she now lives, with Ruby, on her farm at Black Cove on Cold Mountain. I found the story had a good pace, the characters were well rounded & ones I cared about wanted to find out the outcome of their tale.

I have never seen the film & therfore only had a vague idea what the book was about, I may now watch the film BUT that so often disappoints.
