Sci-Fi Technobabble Generator

Aug 13, 2011 13:41

This is a gross alteration of the Star Trek Technobabble Generator from The Nitpicker's Guide for Next Generation Trekkies Trekkers, Volume II. I came up with it fairly soon after reading the book in 1995, and recently rediscovered it while looking up the episode "The Chase", because of a discussion about it on a blog.

So here it is. If I had the right programming skills, I could make it actually generate phrases for you, but alas, I do not. So get some dice or use Excel to generate random numbers or something.

Results seem to come in three types: really cool (e.g. natural warp field neutralizer), nonsense (e.g. cosmic lepton bubble conduit), or really mundane (e.g. electromagnetic radiation beam generator, a.k.a. flashlight).

Please comment with any results you find interesting.
