What's wrong with cutting and pasting if you agree with the sentiment? I think sagespot eloquently examined this topic and the flamewars that erupted as the result of this meme.
I want to know YOUR thoughts and feelings on the topic, not some old fart's.
I will remind you that I am an old fart ;-)
I think that we, as a society, have an obligation to recognize intimate relationships between two people, so that there's a legal ground for establishing rights and responsibilities that go along with what has traditionally been called marriage, regardless of the gender or sex of the people involved. This legal ground is important for such mundane issues as spousal heathcare coverage, medical decisions and notifications in the event that one spouse is injured and not capable of making decisions, shared income tax filing, inheritance rights, recompense if there is unfaithfulness, etc.
I do object somewhat to calling it a domestic partnership instead of marriage, since this leaves a wedge by which further discrimination can be applied, however, most of the argument along this lines seems like cheap political manuevering to me. As long as we, as a society, have a legal mechanism in place for recognizing intimate relationships in a fair and equitable manner, I don't really give a crap what they call it.
what you intend to DO about it!!!!!
Well, I'd really like to see Marilyn Musgrave replaced by someone competent, and in general, I don't feel comfortable with a government made up of judgmental christian fundamentalist conservatives that seem much more interested in starting armageddon than fulfilling their responsibilities to uphold the Constitution and Bill of Rights. So you can imagine that voting comes into the picture.
I also want to make homophobes uncomfortable because of their bigotry.
Thanks :-)
cutting and pasting for something so important.

Other than that, my schedule is open.
