So, basically, I won't be flying home early; this much we've established. In addition to the incompetence of the CheapTickets phone line people (and for that call, mind you, I went over my alotted minutes for my telephone account and was charged £1.80, mind) we've been advised by the principal not to leave until the end of exam period due to the industrial actions (read: strike) still going on with the teachers. It's a nationwide thing, not just St Andrews, so until it's resolved everywhere it doesn't get resolved here; the principal's email was really snarky and kind of...made me support the teachers a little more. And hey, he just got a big ol' pay raise, and drives a Jaguar, and would it really kill them to give the teachers the money that was promised to them (and budgeted in) by the Scottish Parliament? I think not. Anyway, I'm here til the 27th, and it's 10 days of nothing, so I might make a trip to Edinburgh for a day, cause I love Edinburgh, but I don't know because I am looking at being FLAT BROKE by the end of term. *facepalm* But I did expect to be, and I am working this summer--at Clay Cafe again, so come see me, G-town folks.
I've also turned in my last paper of the semeseter! Hooray! My grades aren't shaping up to be stellar, but I had prepared for B's while I was here, so I'm not devastated by that. I got a 10 on one of my Linguistics tests though and that WILL NOT FLY. I worked my ass off on that thing. Studied more than I have for any test in...wow, I don't remember the last time I worked that hard to study for a test. I did external reading, planned the essay, wrote it out, checked it, and turned it in; then I get a 10 because she says it's 'unfocused' (which I don't even get, it so was). I'm going to talk to her about it tomorrow. Also with regard to my two latest essays, I decided to save them and do them in one big fell swoop, which led to a 7-hour library binge last Thursday and an 11-hour one on Monday. The essays got done, and done well I hope, I thought they were good...but I was so sick and tired of the stupid brown and yellow library. It was so pretty out, the sun was shining and it's been creeping up to the low 60s out, and I had to stay in and work. What a drag.
I'm planning to go to the Beach Bop on Friday night, then Monday is the May Dip. God, I am an idiot for doing that, but I promise there will be pictures. Jumping in the North Sea at 5am...whoever planned that HAD to have been drunk. Next week is the last week of classes, then revision week (and a trip to Dundee on Thursday!) and then exams and then...chillin' for a few days. I keep thinking about how close it's getting to the end and I'm filled with a mix of excitement and relief and sadness. I've had such a great time here and met some amazing people, and I'll miss them all and miss the place...but I'm ready to go home, and go to the beach, and see my boyfriend, and possibly dye my hair again, and eat Southern food, and--well, there's a lot to look forward to, and I definitely am.
