When It's Too Close To Home

I've talked about Jesse's friend, Hoot, before. He lived with us for a while, back in 2001. He and Jesse played together even before they went to kindergarten. That's him with the super white hair, with my two oldest boys.

We just found out that Hoot's mom, Cindy, had a stroke last night. Hoot and his stepfather are at the hospital so I haven't talked to them yet. A neighbor told us that she's paralyzed from the waist down. I don't have much medical knowledge but I've never heard of anyone being paralyzed from the waist down from a stroke. It's always been the left side or the right side, speech, or something. Does anyone know if this is possible? Could my neighbor have misunderstood?

Cindy has always been really great to my kids. She's the neighbor I'd put on the kids' green emergency cards at school for the them to call if they couldn't get hold of me. Once, Nick got off the school bus and ran into Cindy's house yelling, as he headed down her hallway, "Call my mom and tell her I'll be home in a minute. I have to poop." And Cindy called to tell me Nick stopped at her house to poop. :) That's a real friend.

I called Jesse to tell him about Cindy. He was really upset and wanted to call Hoot. I don't think he'll be able to reach him at the hospital but I guess he had to try anyway.

In the meantime, I'm praying really hard. Cindy has been my friend for a very long time. She sat with me as I waited at the hospital for Kendyll to be born. We've commiserated over our kids, our husbands, the bills, our weight, and everything else in our lives.

Please, God, take care of Cindy.
