New Manga~
Earlier today, er... yesterday, I was at the mall with one of my old high school friends in the Books-A-Million and I noticed a manga I had never seen before. Now I don't often find random manga I actually like but this one was quite a neat find for me. Its called Dragon Sister! (Full Name: Dragon Sister! Sangokushi Hyakka Ryōran / DRAGON SISTER！三國志 百花繚乱). Basically its a very well orchestrated genderswap series centered in the very early stages of the Three Kingdoms era of ancient China. I love the Romance of The Three Kingdoms due to the Dynasty Warriors games, so I pounce on anything I can find related to it.
It starts with Zhang Jiao, the soon to be leader of the Yellow Turban Rebellion, acquiring magic scrolls of peace in order to save the crumbling Middle Kingdom. Zhang Jiao and his brothers use the scrolls to weaken all heroes so their conquering of the land can go on without a hitch. But then Zhang Jiao gets the idea of making them all "beautiful women to surround himself with" instead. Now as any student of magic knows... using magic for personal gain has repercussions. The spell backfires and the three Zhang brothers are turned into girls themselves. This also causes all future heroes of the battlefield that would have originally been born as men, to be born as women. Now we speed up to see Zhang Fei & Guan Yu trying to get by and upset with how they can't join the Imperial Army as women. They eventually run into Liu Bei (who is still a guy) the bamboo mat salesman with a dream of a safer and better China, which the Yellow Turbans are failing at achieving. Thus the legendary Oath between Liu Bei, Guan Yu & Zhang Fei under the Peach Blossoms still occurs, promising to fight along side each other as brother and sisters. With this act, the seeds of Shu have been sown and the Volunteer Army of Lou Sang heads off to combat the Yellow Turban Menace.
And that's only the first chapter... I'll probably rant more once I finish the volume. Oh... and whats amusing is how Ignition came up as I was typing this. That song is the BGM for the first level of Dynasty Warriors 6, The Yellow Turban Rebellion.
