Business of the day: Cookies! Maybe Cupcakes, I'm not sure!
One of my good RL friends (you know, one out of like three) is having his birthday party today, which basically, since my other good friend is his wife and she has to work, means that I will be attending a party full of goofy boys who will spend all day (and night) playing Magic: The Gathering tournaments and insulting each others' manhood. I can also guarantee that none of them will bring any (edible) food. So.
The thing that sucks about hanging out with mostly guys is that you get really used to providing snacks for every party. It's not that they expect you to because you're the girl, it's more that in their one-track dude-brains they don't seem to get that a) they're going to get hungry at some point, b) they will want something to eat while they try to annihilate each other, and c) the kind of foods they can eat with one hand while the other holds their cards are very simple to make at home and require very little prep time. It just doesn't register.
I have no idea what kind of cookies I'm making, but I'm probably going to go with the ones that require the least amount of effort for the maximum satisfaction of dudes. So, you know, chocolate chip cookies (which I hate and never make), chocolate cupcakes (using the Hershey's cocoa powder instead of the good stuff, because they wouldn't notice the difference anyways), some no-bake cookies (that I can whip out in ten minutes), and then possibly a peanut butter drop cookie, I'm not sure. Then I can call the birthday boy and say "Hey, Birthday Boy, I have a butt-load of treats here, so you need to send one of the guys to pick me up so I don't have to walk to your house with a baby stroller full of containers."
It's a good thing I like to bake. And the thing is that when you like to bake and most of the people you know are guys? You get major worship points! Birthday Boy and all his noodle-brain friends will have an awesome time playing with their cards, and I will take an art project with me so I can hang out in the same room and do my thing and still make fun of them.
After all, isn't that the true meaning of friendship?
