I work at a Sixth Form College in East London. One of the students approached me on Tuesday and asked me a favour... She's a Fashion & Textiles student and she wants to do her project on 70's punk fashion.
She wanted to know if I could get her any info on the subject, first hand accounts of real punks who were actually there in the 1970s. (I was only a baby at the time so cannot give her anything myself!)
So, do any of you think you could help out here? Do you know any people who were there back then? Were you there yourself?? She's looking to get written accounts of the original 70's scene from first hand experiences. So can you write a little piece for her?
She wants to know things like:
- What were the popular "looks" of the punk scene?
- What kinds of clothes did you wear?
- What fabrics/materials were used?
- Did people make their own clothes? If so, how?
- What techniques did you use? (ripping? safety pins? graffiti?) How did you do these things?
If anyone has photos of original punks, could you post them on here? Or email them to me? (see my Profile) And can she use them?
If anyone can help out here, please either post as replies on here, or email me directly.
Thank you very much!
