Just watched 1.21 and 1.22. Here my really random, disorganized thoughts. No really, I took a huge-ass nap today and I'm feeling slightly ill so, bear with me.
Also, new friends from Bonnie friending meme, (and maybe the SPN friending meme too?) HI! :D
So, I've heard Bonnie was catching a lot of crap because of something that happened in 1.21 and then I watched it and was "Wait, that's it?" THAT'S what everyone was so angry at Bonnie for? REALLY? Cause, from my view, she did a good thing. She had good reasons for it. I wouldn't even say it makes her a morally grey character, it makes a teenager trying hard to do the right thing and be a good friend at the same time. She was trying to protect people.
I wouldn't even say she redeems herself in 1.22, cause I don't think she really did anything wrong, except maybe lying to Elena but she was just trying to protect her.
Which, BTW, Bonnie rocked this episode. She's was the cavalry and badass and awesome and loves her best friend and was trying to help her. And FINALLY, someone acknowledges that Damon hurts people (or has hurt people) and that someone should really put a stop to it. I love that Bonnie stepped up there.
Also, I just really fucking love how this show really emphasizes the friendships between the two of them. God, it's been so long since I watched a tv show that showed how important female friendship and BFFs are. I've spent so much time watching SPN and other male dominated shows, I forgotten how AWESOME it is to see two women (or two teenage girls) have a solid, strong relationship, even with it's ups and downs (HEY, KINDA LIKE ME AND MY REAL LIFE BFF :D). The last time a show put it's emphasizes on the friendships of women, it was Buffy, I think (Well, actually, it was Eastwick, but that was cancelled and I'm still rather peeved about that). And TVD really stressed how important Bonnie and Elena are to each other. I mean, them being on the outs in 1.21. really worried Caroline (because friendships are just as important as boyfriends :D). Bonnie protecting Damon and Stefan solely because they are important to Elena. That's a show about female friendships and it just pleases me immensely. The point is, I like seeing that on my screen again, I miss it. *cuddles TVD*
OTHER NON-BONNIE AND BFF-Y THOUGHTS:
OH JOHN. OH DAVID ANDERS. I AM SO TORN ABOUT YOU. ON ONE HAND, I WANT HATE YOU. YOU KILLED PEARL. YOU KILLED ANNA. D:
But I feel you have humanity! YOU ARE A FLAWED CHARACTER AND I LOVE YOU FOR IT.
Also, I wonder about killing Anna. I was wondering if he staked her because he hated her or if it was an act of mercy. I mean, there was no reason to stake her. She was going to die anyway in the fire. So, did he kill her to have the personal satisfaction of killing her? Or was it a mercy kill, kill her quickly rather than burning to death?
I'm inclined to go with the second one, but I feel I may be subscribing too much goodness to John cause I want to see there's more to him besides (and because he's important to my Big Bang and I want him to have lots of depth). Even so, I still enjoy his character. He's a dick, he hates vampires (but most vampires are evil, as far as he knows and I imagine it's hard to let go of that viewpoint) but he does care for his family. I love how everyone in this show has something to make me like them.
I don't even wanna touch the subject of Damon becoming more and more human. I mean, I love Bonnie threatening to kill him if he steps out of line. That's awesome. At the same time, I really miss the psychopath from the early season. He was entertaining and I was wondering how the show was going to keep him and deal with all his fuckery without toning him down or changing him for the better. Turns out, they are changing him for the better. I mean, I like character development. I like that he's growing. But at the same time, I wanted him to stay an "obligatory psychotic jackass" and not change him because he's too dark. IDK, guys, I'm conflicted :/
OMG, JUST LET TYLER BE A WEREWOLF ALREADY. ARE WE GETTING THAT NEXT SEASON? CAUSE I WANTED THAT NOW AND NO, SHOW MAKES US WAIT. D:
I am loving the Tyler and Matt bromance. I went from really not liking Tyler for how he treated Vicki to kidna, sorta becoming fond of him. And now, I feel really bad for Tyler. His dad is dead, poor kid.
OMG, my heart broke for Jeremy. The poor kid is so screwed up. And how fucking chilling it was to watch him basically commit suicide. *shudder* That was creepy. Even though I knew he'd become a vampire, way too close to real life.
Still, I'm so looking forward to vampire!Jeremy and how Elena will deal with the fall-out of it. Season 2 is gonna rock.
Also, KATHERINE! OMG, KATHERINE! I WAS FREAKING OUT WHEN SHE CUT JOHN'S FINGERS OFF. OMG OMG OMG OMG KATHERINE! FINALLY, I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU ALL SEASON. And yay, that means Elena didn't kiss Damon, it was Katherine, which is awesome, because I was going all "OH, ELENA, NO." And then I felt better :D
SO FUCKING EXCITED FOR NEXT SEASON AND MORE JOHN AND KATHERINE AND VAMPIRE!JEREMY.
I'm kinda glad the season has ended. If only because I'm getting so tired of having to change my head canon every week because of stuff that happened in the episode. Now I can write my Big Bang in peace over the summer and it can be finished just in time to be jossed in September :D
