Love, Death and Taxes

So I'm on the last leg of my vacation before I start my new job next week.  It's been highly enjoyable.  Our trip to Emerald Lake (Yoho National Park, B.C) was incredibly perfect and picturesque - to be in the Rocky Mountains free of Tvs, computers, telephones, lizards and every other distraction imaginable was so refreshing.  We were able to give each other our complete and undivided attention, and I think we did that very well ;)

Emerald Lake is heaven on earth, we could see the Burgess Shale from our cabin's balcony.  The hotel itself is so gorgeous, and even though the lake was still frozen, it was spectacular.  We took little walks, drove to Lake Louise and the Great Divide, watched trains in the Spiral Tunnels and spent the evenings lounging in front of a roaring fireplace with red wine (our favorites - J.Lohr and Masi Campofiorin).  It was so....romantic and perfect.  I'm nothing short of completely and totally smitten with Thomas, even if he is a Sasquatch.

Now we're back, and I'm trying to mentally prepare to start work this week with Nashco.  In the last two weeks I've also been tying up loose ends.  I love that 'clean slate' feeling.  I've paid off two of my credit cards, a speeding ticket (oooops!), the gas bill, re-vamped my cellular agreement, submitted all of my health benefits paperwork, gone to the dentist (yay!!), and just finished up my taxes.  May I add that I hate the Canadian government.  I've gone over my taxes with a fine toothed comb, and it is official - I OWE THEM money.  f*ckers.  I was really hoping for a return this year to put towards our next trip (to Tofino).  I'm going to fully ramp up RRSP contributions this year.  Lesson learned, but I digress...

I'm very much looking forward to this new path in my life.  I feel so much safer knowing I get to face it with Thomas.  We have so many plans, I can't wait for them all to unfold.  As a couple in our  first year together, he and I have been through quite a lot.  We've weathered every storm, and tackled some pretty giant issues.  At the end of the day, I wouldn't trade what I have with him for the world.  He is my greatest challenger, my quietest protector and my best friend.  The best part?  The man of my dreams loves me, too.
