I'm starting to realize that the end of college is near. Undergraduate anyway. In less than 2 weeks I'll be in Ireland and exactly one week from now I'll be visiting the beautiful medieval monastary known as
Glendalough. And in one year, I'll be three months into my life after school. It's almost unbelieveable. Surreal. Crazy. Scary. Exciting. All of it. I've had so much fun in college and met so many great people that I don't want it to end. I want to keep meeting people and then, more than just meet them, I want to get to know them. There are so many people that I've met, judged initially, and then found out that they are nothing like their given first impression. I'm starting to realize that four years just isn't long enough for college students to mature and really understand people. Sure, we can learn a lot, but I just don't think it's enough. I think I've figured out 3 people entirely, but I've only struck the surface with maybe 30 or 40 people and I want to know more. But, our system is not a life-long learning system where we can attend classes without a watchful and judging eye of an 18-year-old who thinks that college is a place for those right out of high school, not 35-year-olds reinventing themselves. All this makes me think that I want to be around people at their biggest transition. I want to facilitate learning about other people. I just really want to be stuck in college forever. I pretty much want to be a college professor.
With that, my search for grad school will commence. It may not come to a head, but it's what I think fits me at this point in my life. I'd love to get a MFA in Acting as it's a terminal degree (the highest in the field) and I could, at least partially, guarantee myself a job acting or teaching. My parents are open to it and I'm still thinking. I'd love to go to New York to study and there are opportunities, but we'll see. The search begins now. Also, in the Spring/Fall of 2006, I'll start applying for the Marshall Scholarship. I'd like to study theatre in London or somewhere in England. It just makes sense to study in such a theatre hotspot and the Marshall Scholarship seems a great way to accomplish that.
On a side note, I'll soon be setting up accounts where people can view pictures I plan to take in Ireland. I'll post the site here when it's ready.
