So, I'm reading the article about the service and burial for LAPD officer Randall Simmons. For those of you not in the City of Angels, this was a sickening tragedy. Psycho gang-boy holes up in house and kills his brother and father, then shoots two S.W.A.T. officers, wounding one of them fatally. Officer Simmons was more than just a veteran cop. Apparently he was not only admired by fellow cops for excellence in his primary profession, he was also a lay minister who ran a program for disadvantaged youth in his spare time. Super cop, super citizen.
Anyway, I'm particularly focused on the burial details as the CEMETERY is right down the street from my office. I'm reading along when I come to the final paragraph, which reads:
"Simmons' casket will be accompanied by an LAPD motorcade on its way to Holy Cross Cemetary. Simmons will be buried with a number of honors, including a flag presentation and a Missing Man Formation fly-by"
I guess spelling ability is no longer a requirement for journalists and editors. What's next? Knowledge of basic anatomy will no longer be required of physicians?
Don't they at least know how to use spell-check?
