Last Thursday I was riding a bike to to grocery store (I need to write that story down, it's funny), and I took a really awkward tumble and tweaked my left knee. I went to the doctor today to have it checked out. Torn MCL, but my meniscus appears to be intact. I may torn the MCL/meniscus connection. I got the OK to begin rehab, and I'm very, very ( Read more... )

Thanks! I've spent the last 12 days on the couch with my knee wrapped, iced, and elevated. I think I'm over the worst of it. It seems to be healing well. I did make great progress on Gran Tourismo 4 on my playstation with all the down time. I'm just so happy that I can at least get back on my trainer bike and spin some at night.

I seem to remember you having a shoulder injury maybe? Have you ever had knee issues?

Yes, I had what most doctors would call a "wuss injury". My self diagnosis is that I had an insanely bad keyboard/mouse setup at work, ergonomically speaking. After a few years my shoulder just wasn't right. Then when I was in the gym, lifting what is practically my warm up weight now (185 lbs) there was a loud >pop< from my shoulder at the tip of the bone you feel, toward the back. It took me nearly a year to recover from that. I got rid of my mouse at work and use a keyboard with an integrated trackpad.

I've never had an ACL/MCL or meniscus problem but 3 of my immediate co-workers have. I'm very careful when I ski and run and I try very hard not to twist badly. I know it's easy enough to do.

I've also self diagnosed that I have ITB Syndrome but better stretching (more than zero) and good shoes seems to help this.
