[Jason passes by on his way to work (that will never stop sounding weird in his head). He vaguely remember something about this celebration, probably from the rare times he found the time to watch tv, because it doesn't seem to be something included in his training or lessons.

Well. It can't hurt.

Finding the right words for the piece of paper is surprisingly difficult.]

[You especially need your hetero life partner a troll bothering you.]

Jason, you came!

[but is is still hetero life partner when one isn't hetero?]

[A shrug.] It's on my way. Celebrating being alive's always pretty good.

[people mingling and talking and smiles around? Not that bad. Gives a break from the end of the world]

[It is strictly hetero in that they have no sex.]

Did you make a wish?

Whole point of the thing, isn't it? Even if it's not traditional to me. (a shrug) I think I saw yours, unless someone else babbles Arabic.

[There is an odd twitch at Quatre's mouth, and he comes very close to tearing into Jason for that last sentence. But he contains his temper.]

Well, nothing about Anatole is traditional.

(Jay sees the twitch by his awesome powers of hetero life partner. He turns though, keeping Quatre before him)

Never said I understood it written. (it's said in passing, as an afterthought. He frowns at the table) Do you think those things are safe to eat? One or two look like they could kill someone.

[Quatre almost says something but lets it go. Today is not the day to throw temper tantrums.]

I hope Nagi doesn't hear you; he might be insulted.

Hey, I like Japanese food. Doesn't mean I don't think it doesn't looks weird.

[he looks some more and decides that the safest course of action is taking a drink instead.]

[Without realizing it, Riza finds herself beside Jason. She recognizes him a moment late, something strange passing through her eyes for an instant. She drags forth a worn-out little smile and pretends everything is normal. Hopefully he will do the same.]

Jason. How are you?

[Riza. He didn't hear her coming, and startles a bit - he relax before he can put his hand on his knife, under his shirt, too hot for the jacket. Serves him right, for letting his guard drop. May the whole wish business had been a bad idea.
He smiles in answer. She's strong.]

Riza. [he spreads his hands a little] Actual sun and warmth, no more zombies, a beautiful lady before me? I have never been better. [he doesn't ask. Sometimes the question hurts more than it should.]

I'm a bit surprised this [he gesture to the bamboo, wishes and table] is so popular though.

[She is more than grateful that he doesn't ask how she is. That would be impossible to answer and it would threaten this precarious calm she is trying to maintain.

His compliment trips her for a moment, but not in a bad way. Confusion furrows her brow for a second and she refuses the impulse to look over her shoulder to see if he's talking about someone else.]

The weather is nice again finally, maybe a little too warm.

[She tugs absently at the collar of her blouse, pulling it high against the back of her neck.]

It does seem like an odd tradition. We don't have anything like it where I come from.

[He smiles a bit at her confusion - she is good-looking, and seriously, what's with the people here? Have no-one ever gave then compliments? It should sounds weird coming from him, seeing how he was raised, but well.]

Ice-cream weather, the best there is. I haven't seen an ice-cream seller yet.

[He notices the gesture - it looks like a habit. He wonders briefly what she's hiding, and it goes into his mental notes.]

You must have some traditions or celebrations we'd find odd.

[She finds herself able to take some comfort in the oddest things, and his little smile is one of them. It's so like Havoc's, only missing the cigarette hanging out of the corner of his mouth. Her eyes soften and she tries a little harder at her own smile.]

That's true. It is perfect weather for ice cream. There's probably a vendor out there somewhere.

[She glances to the door as if in search of one, and looks back at him. It takes her a moment to speak again, but she shows no sign of discomfort when she talks about home.]

We don't really have very many celebrations, unless you count military festivals. Though I'm sure you'd find a few of our traditions odd.

Is this holiday familiar to you, then?

(this smile looks better. And ice cream didn't get shot down. Maybe he could ask her out, after work. Ice cream's innocent enough, right?
He can't really answer anything about her military festivals. Everything looks weird from another point of view.)

I can't say familiar, really. I think I saw it on TV, at some point. (he passes a hand in his hair) Don't really think we'd need it to be familiar to appreciate it - we being, well. Us.

(there doesn't seem to be any native around. It's more of a Scorched private party.)

[She glances around the room as well, and notices the same thing Jason had, namely that all the guests seem to be Scorched. It's not a bad thing necessarily. Lost souls taking comfort in each other.]

You're right. There are so many different people here, from different cultures. It's nice.
