Well. It can't hurt.
Finding the right words for the piece of paper is surprisingly difficult.]

Jason, you came!

[A shrug.] It's on my way. Celebrating being alive's always pretty good.
[people mingling and talking and smiles around? Not that bad. Gives a break from the end of the world]

Did you make a wish?

Well, nothing about Anatole is traditional.

Never said I understood it written. (it's said in passing, as an afterthought. He frowns at the table) Do you think those things are safe to eat? One or two look like they could kill someone.

I hope Nagi doesn't hear you; he might be insulted.

[he looks some more and decides that the safest course of action is taking a drink instead.]

Jason. How are you?

He smiles in answer. She's strong.]

The weather is nice again finally, maybe a little too warm.
[She tugs absently at the collar of her blouse, pulling it high against the back of her neck.]
It does seem like an odd tradition. We don't have anything like it where I come from.

[He notices the gesture - it looks like a habit. He wonders briefly what she's hiding, and it goes into his mental notes.]
You must have some traditions or celebrations we'd find odd.

That's true. It is perfect weather for ice cream. There's probably a vendor out there somewhere.
[She glances to the door as if in search of one, and looks back at him. It takes her a moment to speak again, but she shows no sign of discomfort when she talks about home.]
We don't really have very many celebrations, unless you count military festivals. Though I'm sure you'd find a few of our traditions odd.
Is this holiday familiar to you, then?

He can't really answer anything about her military festivals. Everything looks weird from another point of view.)
I can't say familiar, really. I think I saw it on TV, at some point. (he passes a hand in his hair) Don't really think we'd need it to be familiar to appreciate it - we being, well. Us.
(there doesn't seem to be any native around. It's more of a Scorched private party.)

You're right. There are so many different people here, from different cultures. It's nice.
