Friends. Allies. Companions. Was this the only thing that mattered to these people? He'd seen it over the months he'd been here. People spoke, they befriended. They even formed little groups and associated and he had not been spared the attempts to include him on such things. What use was any of it? He didn't need to be their friends to defend them.

He would never imagine replacing her. Did she think he would ever allow that thought to cross his mind? He despised the mere thought of allowing someone to take her place. But there were just some things that kicked in, some things that stuck out in his mind the more and more he had seen her. Things he remembered as he cared for her. It had been one of the reasons he stopped that day, the day that they had met.

Byakuya didn't miss a detail. The color to her cheeks, her body language... he'd seen it before, but this was one of those times he wasn't in a hurry to banish the one expressing them. He lowered his gaze to the bunny he'd managed to capture for her. Perhaps he would consider allowing Rukia to have a rabbit once the war was over.

"While I have time to spare, do not waste it. What is it you want to do?" As usual, his words were much colder than he intended, cold slate finding the young girl crouched beside the rabbit once more.
