[He won't arrive in tears. Even if he isn't done crying, even if he feels that same need to hug and be hugged that he did as a little boy. Merlin will not, as Arthur would put it, big the bigger girl here.]
[There must be a bit of a masochist in him to keep replaying Verity's broadcast over and over again. He does it because none of this feels real and without the reminder Merlin would convince himself that none of this was really happening. The King is gone and every fiber of him wants to reject it.]
[And every time he sees her trembling, and sobbing, and his heart breaks even more. It's all wrong. Verity should be smiling. And Arthur should be alive.]
[By the time he arrives at Verity's door, he's given up on what should be. He turns off his Forge and wipes his eyes before knocking softly.]
