She paused when he turned to speak to her. And blinked. He didn't want to get away from her after all. It was almost surprising. A moment passed and these thoughts caught up with her and she grinned, nodded and got to her feet quickly to follow him.
"I am kind of hungry..." She wasn't really sure now when she'd last ate since she didn't have any money or access to a kitchen she could cook in. She'd had a little bit here and there when she was staying at the clinic, but she hadn't wanted to take anything away from the younger children. But Mr Hughes had said there'd be food here and that was further confirmation in her mind that she was right to believe that any friend of Mr Mustang's had to be a good person.

She nodded. "Mr Hughes said there would be ice cream at least."

"I know him a little. He seems really nice. He's a friend of Mr Mustang, so I'm sure he's all right."

"If you think so," he said, trying to let her know that he trusted her opinion. He stopped by the table where some of the food was spread out, looking over the selections, before turning back to Riza, before pulling her forward so that she could get a better look.

She took the last step up to the table when he gave her a tug and looked over the food. She hadn't ever really seen this much food in once place before, never really having gone to a party or anything of that sort before. She looked at Spencer first, as if waiting for some cue, before reaching out with the hand not holding his to take a little peach out of a fruit bowl.

In a way, he reflected in the back part of his mind, it almost felt like she was his little sister, but he didn't understand why he would be thinking that when he had only known her for a few days by this point. Maybe it was because they were both all alone and had banded together? He couldn't be sure, but it was certainly worth looking into later on.

"The quiche looks good."

"Anything else?"

"Isn't there stuff you want, too?"

"You don't have to do that."

It's what he was used to, after all, taking care of others. Although, admittedly, Riza wasn't his mom nor was she mentally ill, but it made him feel slightly better to be able to do something for someone. If only because it eased that ache in his heart just slightly and made him feel like he wasn't going crazy.

"Then I'll get the things you want for you." And she smiled. Looking after someone else gave her a sense of comfort and familiarity the same way it did for him.
