[He'd managed to get very little done today in terms of actual work. But he'd found his book and that had to count for something.]
[He did at least get the horses tended to, because they're not like dirty socks that can wait until the next day. He thinks about borrowing one and decides against it. Sometimes the Mist seems to spook them, even at its lightest. Merlin can't blame them. Sometimes it does the same thing to him.]
[But not enough to keep him from learning about magic that wasn't from this world or his own. So it's largely sheer eagerness that makes him head off for the edge of the ruins a little early. But there's also the realization that they only have so much time before it gets dark.]
