[she had almost not come. finding lavi had been the easy task; the difficulty was stepping inside the church. she could wait, of course, but it would be dark soon - the duckling would likely not survive in the ruins waters by herself. she wasn't completely heartless.

so shirley stepped into the church, her steps echoing inside. it seemed louder than before. and the church's emptiness, the echos, her seeking someone else: it was a painful reminder of the man she had loved, the man she did love, and the ways she had become a woman he would no longer lay his life down for.

she looked unusually solemn because of that thought. fitting in a church, at least. other may have mistaken her as a cleric for it, for her white cloak and the hood drawn over her head. but then, what would be in the basket she carried, an offering to the god?]

[Honestly he'd lost track of time, eye closed with his head touching the pew in front of him. Lavi could easily lose himself for days or weeks in his head with everything that he'd seen. The sounds of those that did belong to the church ignored him as he ignored them, to them he was just another one of the Scorched seeking redemption or a helping hand, not to be disturbed unless asked for. To Lavi they were just white noise that reminded him not to get lost.

So when unfamiliar footsteps sounded however quietly on the stone floor he lifted his head, blinking as if he had just woken from a deep sleep. It was only a curious glance, to see if he had been found in one of his few sanctuaries in this place. But to his eye he only saw another - stronger - believer come to make some kind of donation to the church before prayer or confession. Still he would keep an eye on them, no matter who they were, as he himself turned back to the front of the church.]

[she paused, briefly, before approaching. and even when she set the basket next to him, shirley remained quiet. (nor did she push her hood back.) inside, a duckling napped on a white blanket; the pale green ribbon that had been wrapped around her neck was now curled under her body. she was troublesome miss, having managed to chew it off.

perhaps why shirley had named her damia without thinking.]

[Lavi pauses, looking down at the ducking. There was only one person he knew handing them out was Shirley and he lifts his head a little to look her way. He shifts further down the pew, pulling the basket with him, silently inviting her to sit down with him.]

Surprised you found me.
