Since coming to Anatole, she hadn't done much better. But she did at least go to the occasional shindig, mostly looking for opportunities and free food. That was another thing she was bad at -- letting go of ivories for herself, even when it came to necessities.
And now here she was...actually throwing the party for a change. And what was Elena doing at her party? Drinking punch and watching the door, ready to pounce the next person who came through it.]

And here I thought I'd be fashionably late but I see the party's just getting started.

Lavi!
[Elena was on her feet quickly...perhaps a little too quickly if the clatter of her falling chair was any indication. She blinks back at it before returning her attention to him.]
The sun room looks incredible!
[A thoughtful tilt of her head.]
It almost makes me wish I'd had the party during the day...

Thanks, Elena. Though I'm just hoping it'll stand up to any kind of treatment you put it through. Just no more dragons, yeah?
[A playful wink, hard to tell with the eye-patch, since the dragon wasn't her fault. Anyone's really.]
Don't worry about that, yeah? You've got a ton of opportunities in the future to have guests over to enjoy it.

[Elena repeats the words, almost like a promise.]
And I'll be careful with it. You did a good job. I wouldn't just trample all over it.
[She smiles a little before glancing around the large, open room.]
Can I ask you something? If you were me, what would you...do with this place?

[At the question he pauses and looks around.] Well... You could do several things with it, make it in to a theater or a bar. Even a gallery if there are more than a few artists roaming around.
Might be able to make it into a studio if you're into martial arts or weapons training. [Grins and rubs at the back of his head.] Sorry if these are things you've heard before. But personally... I dunno, if it was mine I might make it into a library.

[She trials off, taking another, slower look around.]
Actually, I hadn't heard any of those thins. Well, I'd heard 'bar' before. So...I guess I can't say that I hadn't heard any, because I'd heard one.
[Elena pauses and nibbles her bottom lip thoughtfully.]
I was thinking maybe...a game room. Someplace where people could have fun and talk.
[Her brown eyes flash back to Lavi.]
I like talking, in case you hadn't noticed. But maybe you don't? If you'd make it into a library, I mean. Talking isn't exactly encouraged in libraries.

[Of what kind...Lavi's not entirely sure. In his time there aren't very many aside from card games and while you can fit a lot of tables in here, he's not sure how many folks enjoy cards. Aside from Allen. And he might get banned.]
Well see that's the beauty of having your own library, you get to make the rules. Doesn't have to be quiet and you can always section off part of it with walls to make a quiet section.

Well. I guess I'll keep thinking. It's been empty ever since I bought it, so I guess it can be empty for just a little while longer.
[She smiles a bit. Nods. But the wheels continue to turn for a few seconds more.]
You must really like books...
[Elena trails off, tilting her head as she studies him. Almost like she's trying to learn more from appearance alone.]
I'm guessing you're smart too.

Might come up with a better idea for it in the meantime, yeah?
[Sheepish sort of laugh and he rubs at his head.] Yeah, I grew up reading all sorts of books. I'm a Bookman apprentice, history is my thing.

[When he mentions that he likes history, she can't resist a sheepish laugh.]
I'm the same way...sorta. At least I used to read old reports all the time. I even-
[She stops to take a quick glance around them, continuing only when she's sure no one else is within earshot.]
I snuck a few peeks at classified stuff.

You learn new things from the past, what not to repeat. I don't blame you, Elena. [Grins slyly at that.] Someone has to keep the rest of your friends from being left in the dark.

[Elena smiles back at him, but that smile slowly fades.]
You know...sometimes those reports? They told a very different story.
[She sighs a little, but Elena decided a long time ago to not think about it too much. It put her loyalty at risk.]
I guess that's the good thing about being the winner, right? Sometimes you get to re-write history.
Reply
They do that more often than you'd be comfortable with, Elena. Writing history to favor them.

[She blinks at him. Something about his expression, his aura...it suddenly seems, well, less than festive.]
I'm sorry, I'm not very good company. I'm much better to work with than...socialize with.

And so're you, Elena. Some folks just aren't naturally social, you have to work at it is all. Try stories with funny endings, or asking about what others like to do.
