[The bells have rung, the candles are lit and prayers have been said. A few people remain, either just loitering or catching up with friends they spotted. The weather isn't too bad either, perhaps a little nippy but it's a cold that somehow encourages gathering together. Stay and share memories.]
He hasn't thought about All Saints and church and all of that in a very, very long while (that he can remember, anyway). He can remember his mom leaving a candle on on that night. Maybe she even attended the service, one year. But, what the hell, it's close from his place. It feels a bit familiar.
He stands up, his hands in his pockets, watching the candles.
[Her hands are in her pockets as she shuffles by. Mostly because it's cold, but she can't really tell if that's why she's shaking. She almost passes him without speaking, but decides it would be ruder than interrupting.]
[it feels like her hand is there for a longer time than it actually was. He wonders what she had been talking about - and also that it sounded like something Older!Dawn would have said.
He doesn't stay there for much longer, after that.]
have a wandering priest, why not?judaspaladinNovember 4 2010, 07:00:14 UTC
[Anderson sees Jason, a familar face, though not in spirit. He quietlys walks to where he stands. He's silent for a beat or two, watching the candles burn.]

[They don't have anything like this on Lucian's world. There may have been something, once, before most of the humans just started to give up and stop trying. Maybe more people would fight back if they had this.
If Ellen were here she'd probably say something about the candles looking like tiny stars. Trinity would probably say something inspriational and profound about lights to hold back the darkness and everyone getting their own little Sun.
Lucian looks at the candles, and just sees flames.]

[Lupin is giving Io a moment alone with the priest. His eyes go back to his handiwork. The morphing pink-to-leaping-to-flowered-to-dogstar-to-humming flame has not melted its candlewax nor burned down its wick. It dimmed when he neared the exit, but as he comes back to stand out of the way beside Lucian, the flame springs back to full brilliance. Once he leaves it'll become a normal, ephemeral flame.]

[Lucian's not very shocked by what he just saw Lupin do. A bit startled at first, yes, but he's seen stranger things even on his home world. And Lucian knows enough of his history to know that magic was once as commonplace as technology, to the point where the former became a vital component in the latter.

[quietly] Matters. Yes. It's all we can do for them now.
I'm sorry.
[…like he's not just saying it out of form. He sounds genuinely sorry for the grief of someone he's never met before, over people he's never met at all.]

[Lucian doesn't say anything. The rest of them might not be able to do anything, but he could. He can finish what Trinity started, he can hunt down every last one of Them, he can get revenge.
...except that he can't do that unless he returns to his own world.]
I...thank you. [The genuine sympathy in that statement...it's surprising, but kind of nice to hear. Lucian doesn't think he can return it, but he can try.] I'm sorry for your loss as well.

[nods a 'thank you, too'.
A bit more conversationally,] I'm familiar with this kind of ritual on my world. I'm a bit surprised to see it practiced here. No one seems to be taking issue with it.

I-it's pretty brave of you.

Why? Why do so much just to light a candle?

[Nods toward the altar.] How many for you, may I ask?

[He stays quiet for a moment.] Two.
