The problem with thinking one won't waste time with Shirley was that one always did waste time. Making others' lives difficult wasn't necessarily amusing or productive, but after so many years as a spirit, Shirley had developed a sense that one must pay for disturbance; if it happened to be amusing, it was something of delightful end result ( ... )
